Across America in a 2CV

We were very curious as to what had been the mechanical failure, however we had to wait until we received the following report from the new owner :
" We did dismantle the engine from the 2CV last fall, and discovered that the piston in the left cylinder had broken above the pin and around the circumference. Then the remainder of the piston jammed against the broken piece and locked up the engine. The connecting rod was bent beyond any possibility of straightening.
We contacted a friend in California, and he had a good used engine in his inventory, so it should be alright."
