Across America in a 2CV We were very curious as to what had been the mechanical failure, however we had to wait until

Epilogue
" We did dismantle the engine from the 2CV last fall, and discovered that the piston in the left cylinder
had broken above the pin and around the circumference. Then the remainder of the piston jammed
against the broken piece and locked up the engine.
The connecting rod was bent beyond any possibility of straightening.
We contacted a friend in California, and he had a good used engine in his inventory, so it should be alright."
